A huge thank you to all families, for your overwhelming support in following the current school guidelines regarding Covid. Your patience and diligence in monitoring symptoms and readily testing children has greatly helped slow the impact at school and is much appreciated. Over the past four weeks, staff have been working really hard to maintain a level of consistency and classes have some wonderful learning experiences happening in their classrooms. We are all hoping things will soon settle down! It’s a tricky time for students, so if you have any concerns please feel welcome to contact us, it’s really important that children feel supported in their learning and issues are more easily addressed early on.
2022 Athletic Carnival Events
With schools across the North West heavily affected by COVID, we are required to change the athletic format for this year. At this point, with heavy absences in classes across Circular Head, running a CHSSSA event is not feasible. So, we will be holding our school athletics carnival and CHSSSA athletics carnival later in the year. At this stage, the North West athletic carnival will be held during Week 8 of the school term, the 30th and 31st March . The North West carnival is a pathway for talented athletes to compete at a high level of competition. In selecting a CHSSSA team, each school will conduct timed trials for the events. These timed trials will be conducted by the same PE teacher across all sites to ensure consistent event results. From the trials, a CHSSSA team shall be selected.
For efficiency of time, students will be given the choice to participate in these trials, those students not wishing to compete at the North West will participate in alternate PE activities whilst others complete the trials.
Teacher/parent communication
See Saw is the common communication tool used by all teachers to communicate with families. Over the next week or so, teachers will be posting information onto See Saw regarding your child’s class or individual messages to families as we strive to strengthen the home school connection. Please ensure you are connected to See Saw so we can maintain regular communication. If you need help, contact school for further instructions.
School Value -Connectedness
School connectedness is all about a sense of belonging, feeling like we all belong at school in an environment which is safe and welcoming. Connectedness is about tolerance, understanding and acceptance of each other- a common understanding that we are all different and that’s ok. Sometimes, connectedness is looking beyond someone’s reactions or behaviour to see what’s really going on, sometimes it’s about taking responsibility for how we make someone else feel, often its usually a little of both. This week our Students of the Week have been selected due to the positive influence and connection to their peers. Congratulations to Sienna Korpershoek, Jack Stokes, Thomas Waddell-Smith and Remi Reeve!

COVID update
New changes to hay fever advice
Public Health has reviewed their advice about hay fever in the current COVID-19 environment.
Hay fever symptoms are similar to COVID-19 symptoms, so it’s important families know what they need to do if their child experiences hay fever symptoms.
If your child has hay fever symptoms, please keep them at home and test for COVID-19 using a rapid antigen test (RAT).
If your child tests negative on a RAT and symptoms continue, Public Health advises that you must do a second RAT 24 hours later, or seek a PCR test.
If the second RAT or PCR remains negative, this is sufficient evidence for your child to return to school if they feel well.
If symptoms change or increase in severity, please see your treating medical practitioner for review.
Please know that Public Health advice can change at short notice, and we appreciate your patience as we respond to these changes as quickly as possible.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office. For more information, please visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website or contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738, or Department of Education COVID Support Hotline at COVID19support@education.tas.gov.au or on 1800 816 057.
Changes about Close Contact quarantine
From Saturday 26 February 2022, close contacts of people with COVID-19 are only required to quarantine for a single 7 day period – the 7 days will not be extended if subsequent people in the household test positive (as long as they are symptom free and return the required negative test result). As long as the person completed the correct testing requirements, has returned negative results and does not have any symptoms they are free to leave quarantine at the same time as the first case in their household.
The year has started off well in 1/2B with new friendships being made as we learn to work together as a team. This was particularly true as we started learning about procedural texts through exploring the book Wombat Stew by Marcia K. Vaughan. We began by working out what ingredients we would like in our stew, which grew into writing our own set of instructions we had to follow. However, what we most looked forward to, was going outside to find our ingredients, and then mixing everything together to create our very own stew! I’m not sure what it tastes like, but some brave souls were convinced that it would be delicious.

The Preps have had a wonderful start to the year and have settled into their daily life at school quickly. This term we are exploring rhyming words through a range of fun picture books. So far we have read ‘There was an Old Women who Swallowed a Fly’ and ‘Rhyming Dust Bunnies’. Each week we have created a craft using our rhyming words to help develop our fine motor skills. Below you can see some of our very cute dust bunnies. So far this week, we have laughed hard as we dig into the classic tale ‘The Cat in the Hat’ and begin generating our own rhyming words for the -at family. Keep your eyes peeled for some mischievous cats that love to rhyme hanging in the window.

Introducing the Student Council for 2022.
Students recently showed their interest in running for the SRC. This year we welcome Clancy Payne, Tully Mullins, Angus Jarvis, Sophie Jarvis, Ruby Lardner, Esmay Ollington, Austin Laing, Kooper Horton, Peyton Dodd, Rubie van Norden, Sienna Korpershoek & Fletcher Kingston.

The Student Council will be busy over the next few weeks with Clean Up Australia and Relay for Life. They are brain storming some very interesting fund-raising ideas. The SRC meets once a fortnight in their own time. We look forward to seeing their ideas put into action!
Please come along and join us next Wednesday March 9th for our first meeting for 2022, 7pm at the school.
Grade 3-4 have been learning about the importance of group work and sharing ideas. As part of this learning, we had the opportunity to work in groups with the Prep class to design parks and skate parks. We were expected to design our skate park and park by thinking about what was needed to make it fun for us. We then used materials to design a three-dimension model of the park. We had so much fun sharing our expertise with the Prep class.
